How to Make Cheeseburger Soup
1
Brown the beef
Heat a large pot over medium heat. Add the ground beef and season with Magic Meat + Kinder’s Hamburger seasoning. Cook until browned, then drain off the grease.
2
Add aromatics
Stir in the diced onion, shredded carrots, and minced garlic. Let them cook until softened and fragrant.
3
Add potatoes
Toss in the diced Yukon potatoes and cook for about 5 minutes to start them softening.
4
Build the broth
Pour in the chicken broth, then add the sour cream, Velveeta cubes, and Creole Trinity & Herb seasoning. Stir until the cheese starts melting into the soup.
5
Simmer until tender
Cover and continue cooking until the potatoes are fork-tender and the soup is thickening naturally.
6
Thicken & finish
Mix cornstarch with a splash of broth or water to form a slurry, then stir it into the soup. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Commonly Asked Questions
Can I use ground turkey instead of beef?
Yes! Ground turkey works great, just don’t skip the seasoning so you still get that burger flavor.
Do I have to use Velveeta?
Nope. You can swap in shredded cheddar, American, or even a cheddar-jack blend. Velveeta just makes it extra creamy.
Can this be made in a slow cooker?
Yes, brown the beef first, then add everything except sour cream, cheese, and cornstarch. Cook 4–6 hours on low, stir in the last ingredients at the end.
Does it reheat well?
Very well! Store in an airtight container up to 4 days. Reheat low and slow, don’t boil, or the dairy can separate.
What toppings go best?
Crumbled bacon, dill pickles, shredded cheddar, green onions, toasted sesame buns, or croutons, anything you’d put on a burger works here.
