How To Make Creamy Italian Sausage Soup
1
Cook the Sausage: Begin by browning the Italian sausage in a large pot over medium heat. Break it into small crumbles as it cooks.
2
Add Onions and Garlic: Once the sausage is fully cooked, stir in the diced onions and minced garlic. Cook until the onions become translucent, about 3-5 minutes.
3
Cook the Kale: Add in the chopped kale and sauté for about 5 minutes, allowing it to wilt slightly.
4
Simmer with Broth and Potatoes: Pour in the chicken broth, add the diced potatoes, and season with Badia Complete, Holy Trinity seasoning, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Stir everything together and bring to a boil.
5
Let it Cook: Reduce the heat to a simmer, cover, and let the soup cook for 20-30 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
6
Finish with Cream: Stir in the heavy cream to create that signature creamy texture. Let it warm for another 5 minutes.
7
Optional Oven Method: If you prefer, you can transfer the soup to an oven-safe pot and let it cook in the oven at 325°F. This method keeps the flavors rich without needing to stir often!
Commonly Asked Questions
How can I store leftover Creamy Italian Sausage Soup?
You can store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. To reheat, simply warm it on the stove or microwave.
Can I substitute kale with another green?
Yes! Spinach or Swiss chard work well as substitutes for kale in this recipe. Just be mindful that spinach cooks down faster than kale.
Is this soup spicy?
The spice level depends on the type of sausage and the amount of red pepper flakes used. For less heat, use sweet sausage and reduce the red pepper flakes.
Can I freeze this soup?
Yes, you can freeze the soup. However, the texture of the potatoes and cream might change slightly upon reheating. Freeze in an airtight container for up to 2 months and thaw in the fridge before reheating.
