Cozy, tender hamburger meatballs simmered in a rich homemade onion gravy. A comforting, family-friendly dinner perfect over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles, ready in under an hour and packed with classic Southern flavor.
In a large bowl, mix together ground meat, cottage cheese, seasonings, Worcestershire sauce, and green onion until just combined. Roll into medium-sized meatballs.
Sauté the Veggies
In a large skillet, melt butter. Add diced onion and mushrooms. Cook 6–8 minutes until softened and browned. Remove and set aside.
Brown the Meatballs
In the same skillet, sear the meatballs on all sides over medium-high heat until browned but not fully cooked.
Add the Gravy
Whisk together cream of mushroom soup, Heinz beef gravy, and Better Than Bouillon. Pour over the meatballs. Add the sliced onions on top.
Simmer
Cover and reduce heat to low. Cook for 20–25 minutes until the meatballs are fully cooked and the gravy is thick and rich.
Serve
Spoon the sautéed mushrooms and onions over the meatballs. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
