Before You Get Started

Cowboy baked beans aren’t fussy, but a few tips will make sure yours come out just right. First, use a heavy-bottomed pot to avoid any burning or sticking. You’ll want to cook everything low and slow to let the flavors meld properly. Keep an eye on your seasoning, this dish should have a nice balance of savory, sweet, and smoky.

What You Need To Make Cowboy Baked Beans

This recipe brings together rich beef, salty bacon, and the sweetness of honey and baked beans. You’ll also want a few seasonings that add that smoky, southern flavor.

How To Make Cowboy Baked Beans

1

Start by browning your diced onions, bacon, and grass-fed beef in a large pot over medium heat. Once everything’s cooked through and those flavors have mingled, go ahead and drain off the grease. This step keeps things hearty without getting too greasy.

2

Next, you’ll stir in your baked beans, a generous squeeze of honey, and your spice blend: think smoky, sweet, and peppery. Cover the pot, drop the heat low, and let those beans simmer for about 30 minutes. Stir occasionally and taste as you go. Adjust salt, pepper, or sweetness to your liking.
