How to Make Marry Me White Beans with Ham and Sausage
1
Prep the Beans
Rinse and drain your white beans. While an overnight soak is optional, soaking for at least 30 minutes helps speed up the cooking process.
2
Sauté the Aromatics
In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add diced yellow onion and green onions, sautéing until soft and fragrant.
3
Cook the Meat
Add Italian sausage and diced smoked ham to the pot. Cook until the sausage is fully browned and the ham starts to caramelize.
4
Build the Flavor
Stir in Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, red chili flakes, tomato paste, and sun-dried tomatoes with their oil. Cook everything together for about 5 minutes to develop deep, rich flavors.
5
Simmer the Soup
Pour in chicken broth and add the pre-soaked white beans. Cover and simmer on medium heat for about 2 hours, or until the beans are tender. Stir occasionally and add more broth if needed.
6
Add the Cream (Optional)
For a luxurious, creamy texture, stir in half and half or heavy cream before serving. Let it warm through for a few minutes before ladling into bowls.
